Is there a risk of birth defects if I take medication for anxiety during pregnancy? I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and struggling with significant anxiety.
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is important to prioritize your mental health during pregnancy, but it is also crucial to consider the potential risks associated with taking medication for anxiety. While some medications may pose a risk of birth defects, others are generally considered safe for use during pregnancy. It is recommended that you consult with your healthcare provider who can assess your individual situation and provide guidance on the most appropriate treatment options. They will consider factors such as the severity of your anxiety, potential risks versus benefits, and alternative non-medication approaches that may be effective in managing your symptoms. Ultimately, the decision should be made in collaboration with your healthcare provider to ensure the best possible outcome for both you and your baby.

I am having same problem. I have had to reduce my medication to every other night as been taking them for years which help me sleep and my restless legs etc.... I have now been referred to perinatal mental health to see if it is safe or whether there is an alternative to take instead of whilst pregnant as iwould like to be able to try breastfeeding. There are a lot of medications I have been told you can take whilst pregnant e.gs sertaline and citalopram. These medications don't suit me as tried in past but Def worth asking as if you are becoming increasingly anxious and upsetting yourself it won't help the baby. If you see someone in the mental health sector they will support and you and help you make the right decision. Pros and cons.... Hope this helps x

Yeah, about medications, ask strictly to your doctor. What I can suggest, is look for alternative in the same time...like yoga... or meditation or...counselling therapy... or body massage...

relaxing chamomille tea...

I have been under extreme stress for so many different things.  Over all , everything in life and relationships great, but I've been going through different stresses and complications with this pregnancy,  I was about to lose it and pull my hair out and just hide from EVERYONE! My dr said he doesn't like to prescribe anxiety meds to pregnant women,  but he saw I needed much help and prescribe me 1 mg ativan twice a day as needed..it takes a bit to kick in as opposed to like a xanax of something similar,  but great thing is, it lasts longer. I've been so much more at ease and in a happy go lucky mood sin e he helped in that way.  Its worth asking for help with that. (I was already taking prozac and the ativan wasan add on to help.) They will most likely try you on antidepressants first. I cant go a day without my prozac or I'm extremely stressed and depressed.  Both work together
