Hi, I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and have only gained 2kg so far. Is this considered normal or should I be concerned? I came across information online stating that by this stage, I should have gained around 6-8kg. Can you provide insight into what other people typically gain at this point in their pregnancy?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

During pregnancy, weight gain varies from woman to woman. While there are general guidelines, it's important to remember that every pregnancy is unique. Gaining 2kg at 23 weeks is within the range of normal weight gain for some women.

The recommended weight gain during pregnancy depends on your pre-pregnancy weight. For those with a healthy BMI (between 18.5 and 24.9), the average total weight gain is usually between 11-16kg (25-35 pounds). However, these numbers are just averages and can vary.

Factors such as genetics, metabolism, activity level, and overall health can influence weight gain during pregnancy. Some women may experience slower weight gain in the early stages but catch up later on.

It's also worth noting that not all pregnancies follow the same pattern. Some women may gain more weight earlier on while others may have a gradual increase throughout the entire pregnancy.

If you're concerned about your weight gain, it's always best to consult with your healthcare provider who can assess your individual situation and provide personalized guidance.

Remember that maintaining a balanced diet with adequate nutrients and engaging in regular physical activity appropriate for pregnancy can contribute to a healthy weight gain and overall well-being during this special time.

Hello,

I am currently 25 weeks and i gained nearly 40 pounds so far. I weighed roughly 125 lbs before i was pregnant and i am now 167 lbs.

Some people gain weight easier and most of it is retaining water. Every pregnancy is different.

Thats perfectly normal if you're a healthy weight when u get pregnant, you dont need to gain alot of weight. Thats what I've been told. The average woman should gain between 25-35ish pounds. But everyone is different. Just be healthy and everything will be ok

Thanks for your reply....I was terribly  ill with severe sickness untill around 21 weeks so just panicked that it had an effect on him growing/gaining weight...... I have regular growth scans (every 4 weeks) from now and see my consultant aswell so it should be all OK.  X
