I'm 16 weeks pregnant and always fall asleep on my left side, but end up waking up on my tummy. Will sleeping on my stomach harm my baby? I'm concerned about potential risks, especially since I am a larger woman.
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is generally recommended for pregnant women to sleep on their left side as it improves blood flow to the baby and uterus. However, if you accidentally wake up on your stomach, there is no need to panic. At 16 weeks, your baby is well-protected by the amniotic fluid and your abdominal muscles. While it's best to try and sleep on your side, occasional time spent on your stomach should not cause harm. As a larger woman, you may find it more comfortable to use additional pillows or a pregnancy pillow for support while sleeping. If you have concerns or experience any discomfort, consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

You won't hurt your baby, your belly is full of amniotic liquid that protects your baby from impact. What happens is you will feel pressure, will get uncomfortable as your belly grows too, so you wont be able to hold the position eventually. Don't worry too much, your body knows what to do, and for now just needs the rest.
