I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and noticed a small amount of brown discharge when I woke up. Is this a normal occurrence during pregnancy?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is not uncommon for pregnant women to experience some spotting or light bleeding during the first trimester, including around 8 weeks. While it can be alarming, it is often harmless and does not necessarily indicate a problem with the pregnancy. Brown discharge, in particular, is usually old blood that has taken time to leave the body. However, it is always important to consult your healthcare provider if you experience any bleeding or unusual symptoms during pregnancy. They can evaluate your specific situation and provide guidance based on your individual circumstances.

I am 27 Weeks and in first trimester I was told spotting is normal as long as the amount of blood is small. If you experience what seems like the flow of a normal menstrual cycle that is a cause for alarm. If the flow is heavy call your doctor ASAP but if you are just experiencing light spotting you can probably wait to tell your doctor until your next appointment or whatever you are personally comfortable with.
