I am 9 weeks pregnant and the smell of perfumes and soaps makes me feel like vomiting, also my mouth taste bitter. What can I do to alleviate these symptoms?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

During pregnancy, it is common for women to experience heightened sensitivity to smells. This can lead to feelings of nausea and even a bitter taste in the mouth when exposed to certain scents, such as perfumes and soaps. Fortunately, there are several strategies you can try to alleviate these symptoms.

  • Avoid Triggers: Identify the specific toiletry products that trigger your symptoms and try to avoid them as much as possible. Opt for unscented or mild-scented alternatives instead.

  • Open Windows: Keep your living space well-ventilated by opening windows or using fans. Fresh air circulation can help reduce the concentration of odors in the environment.

  • Use Natural Remedies: Some natural remedies may help alleviate nausea and improve your overall sense of well-being during pregnancy. Ginger, for example, has been shown to be effective in reducing nausea symptoms. You can try ginger tea or ginger candies.

  • Practice Good Oral Hygiene: Brushing your teeth regularly and using a mild-tasting toothpaste can help combat the bitter taste in your mouth.

  • Take Breaks: If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by strong smells, take breaks from situations where they are present. Step outside for some fresh air or find a quiet space where you can relax until the discomfort subsides.

  • Seek Support: Talk to your healthcare provider about your symptoms and seek their guidance on managing them effectively during pregnancy.

Remember that every woman's experience with pregnancy is unique, so it's important to listen to your body and do what feels right for you. If your symptoms persist or worsen, consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and advice.

Hi, I experienced the same, even now at 35 weeks i still get sick of certain perfumed/fragranced toiletries. Keep it simple, use oderless stuff for a while, i know its not always nice but you will do yourself a huge favor not upsetting your stomach over fragrances for now. ❤
