I'm plus-size and pregnant, and my upper belly is getting bigger than my lower belly, creating a "double belly" look. How long will this last, and what can I do to minimize it with clothing or special bands?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

The "double belly" look during pregnancy is common among plus-size women due to the distribution of weight. It typically lasts throughout the pregnancy but may vary for each individual. To minimize this appearance, there are several strategies you can try.

  • Choose the right clothing: Opt for maternity clothes that provide support and have a flattering fit. Look for tops that flow loosely over your midsection or empire-waist styles that accentuate your bust while skimming over your lower belly.

  • Use shapewear or belly bands: Shapewear can help smooth out any lumps or bulges and provide support to both your upper and lower belly. Belly bands can also offer gentle compression and help distribute the weight more evenly.

  • Layer strategically: Experiment with layering different clothing items to create a visually balanced silhouette. For example, wear a longer cardigan or jacket that falls below your upper belly to draw attention away from it.

  • Accessorize wisely: Use accessories like scarves or statement necklaces to draw attention upwards towards your face rather than focusing on your midsection.

  • Embrace body positivity: Remember that every body is unique, and pregnancy affects individuals differently. Embrace self-love and body positivity by focusing on the incredible journey of growing new life within you.

Consult with a maternity stylist or fashion expert who specializes in dressing plus-size pregnant women for personalized advice tailored to your specific needs and preferences.

I have the same issue. I just go with the flow. It is what it is. As you all can see there are many women who have this. Those pictures of the perfect pregnant belly are just that pictures...

I'm 35 weeks along and still have this "double belly" so i'm guessing i'll never get rid of it before time for *Charleigh* to arrive. The skin arround my navel has stretched out so far it has become numb, but the area below still just kind of hangs there. The best things i have found to make it look like one big preggo bump are: 1) get lycra underwear (the best are from LaneBryant stores) and stretch them up above your navel to smooth the area out. 2) wear a tank top under all shirts to smooth the line from your pants/belly 3) Wear your pants a little higher than your navel- it'll look more of one larger belly rather than 2 small separate ones & make it look more like you're prego than just carrying a beer keg gut around... LoL GL! see what works best for you... you'll have several months to perfect your own method, but for now- these are the ones that have worked for me.
