I weighed 145 pounds before getting pregnant and now weigh 165 pounds at 18 weeks. In my previous pregnancies, I gained 4 and 7 pounds respectively. What is the ideal weight gain for me now? As a first-time mom, I've heard that gaining too much weight can lead to having a big baby. Can someone provide some guidance on this matter?

It is important to remember that every pregnancy is different and weight gain can vary from person to person. However, gaining around 20 pounds at 18 weeks is within the normal range for many women. The recommended weight gain during pregnancy depends on your pre-pregnancy weight.

For women with a healthy pre-pregnancy BMI (Body Mass Index), the general guideline suggests gaining between 25-35 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy. This means that if you started at a healthy weight, you are well within the expected range.

However, it's always best to consult with your healthcare provider who can assess your individual situation and provide personalized advice based on your specific needs and medical history.

Gaining too much or too little weight during pregnancy can have potential risks for both you and your baby. Excessive weight gain may increase the likelihood of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, or complications during delivery. On the other hand, inadequate weight gain could lead to poor fetal growth or low birth weight.

To ensure a healthy pregnancy, focus on maintaining a balanced diet with nutrient-rich foods while avoiding excessive calorie intake. Regular exercise under professional guidance can also help manage your weight and promote overall well-being.

Remember that each woman's body responds differently to pregnancy, so try not to compare yourself too closely with others. Trust in your healthcare provider's expertise and follow their recommendations for a healthy and safe pregnancy journey.

First off Congrats Sweety. Number 1 rule during pregnancy........NEVER listen to people during your pregnancy. Of course listen to your doc, but some people just like to hear themselves talk. Every pregnancy is different, just like all babies are different. I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with our fifth baby and in this pregnancy by my third month I had already gained 20 pounds. I thought Great, i'm gonna be huge. I wasn't overeating or anything abnormal for my body, but I just kept putting on weight. Suffice to say, like I said, now that i'm 33 weeks along I have only gained 31 pounds overall and I must add my eating habits are the exact same as they were and my baby is growing normal and perfectly healthy.. Two of my pregnancies I gained the weight early on and the other three I gained it later. So all in all, I'm sure your just fine and your lil angel is doing Great!!!!'Congrats again, Leighanne

I am right along with you. I myself am 18 weeks pregnant with my first one. Went to the doctors today and I have gained a total of 23 pounds since becoming pregnant. In high school I weighed 185lbs. I lost it and have kept it off for about 2-3 years weighing 135. Now my body gains weight fast no matter how healthy I eat and I weigh 158. I thought I was gaining way to much to fast, but I know I'm not alone. Congrats!!!
