I am experiencing severe itching on my hands, legs, and feet, especially during sleep. What could be causing this discomfort? Is there anything I can do to alleviate the itchiness?

Itching during pregnancy is a common symptom that can be caused by various factors. One possible cause is hormonal changes, which can lead to dry skin and increased sensitivity. Additionally, as your belly grows, the stretching of the skin can also contribute to itchiness. However, if you are experiencing severe itching accompanied by other symptoms such as dark urine or yellowing of the skin, it could be a sign of a more serious condition called cholestasis of pregnancy. This condition affects liver function and requires medical attention.

To alleviate the itchiness, try using mild and fragrance-free moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated. Avoid hot showers or baths as they can further dry out your skin. Wear loose-fitting clothes made from natural fibers like cotton to allow your skin to breathe. If the itching becomes unbearable or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider for proper evaluation and guidance.

Remember that every pregnancy is unique, so it's essential to seek professional advice for an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

I still don't know if  it's normal pregnancy stuff but I know I was itchy like that around week 19 and again at week 22. I was thinking then that a few years ago my cousin went through same thing.Dr told her it was normal.

Your entire body, including your skin, is going to be weird. Lots of lotion, and lots of water has helped my itchy skin, but basically it's one of those things you have to deal with when your body is this out of wack from the soon to be adorable alien that is being  housed in your body
